ABOUT:
Our organization has its own set of By-Laws & an elected slate of officers, consisting of a Commander, Executive Officer, Yeoman, Paymaster, Chaplain, Master at Arms & 3 Trustees.
We hold Board & All Hands/Membership Meetings monthly. We follow Robert’s Rules in the conduct of our meetings.
Board Meetings are held the 1st Wednesday of the month at 12 noon.
All Hands/Membership Meetings are held the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 12 noon.
We are a chartered squadron of the National “Tin Can Sailors, Inc.”, with the designation of NJ DESRON 2 & the SQUADRON name PHOENIX. We encourage all our members to join National.
We are registered with the State of New Jersey as the “Tin Can Sailors Association of New Jersey” and alternately as “Tin Can Sailors (TCS) / Destroyer Veterans (DESVETS) of New Jersey”.
BACKGROUND:
Our organization was founded Sept. 1992 at the Gifford Yacht Club in Toms River, NJ. It relocated in 1995 to the VFW post on Ridge Road in Manasquan, NJ. In April 2011 we then relocated to our present location at the George P. Vanderveer, American Legion Post #129, Toms River, NJ.
Most of our members are also members of the National “Tin Can Sailors, Inc.” located in Fall River, Massachusetts.
Our group has participated in local parades, funeral services for deceased shipmates, military educational displays & many other activities.
We are the proud owner of an 8 1/2-foot model Destroyer “The USS ALLSHIPS” built by previous members of our group & is on display at American Legion Post #129.
We had a 1952 Jeep which we donated to the Military Technology Museum of New Jersey located in Wall Township and is in the process of restoration for display.
