Our Ships Model

USS ALLSHIPS (DD-778)

This is a model of a Gearing Class Destroyer. It was dedicated in memory of  “Moe” Phillips, who served aboard the Allen M. Sumner Class Destroyer USS Massey (DD-778) and the hull number 778 was placed on it.

The model is 97 3/4 inches long and built from blueprints. It took approximately 700 hours to build and was funded by former Tin Can Sailor members. The ship was built by six Navy veterans in the backroom of the Spotswood High School, Spotswood, NJ.

It was christened the USS “ALLSHIPS” on April 29, 1995 at the Holiday Inn in Jamesburg, NJ during the 15th annual “Bull Session” of the Tin Can Sailors, Inc.

It is a lasting tribute to US Navy Destroyermen.

The ship is displayed at the George P. Vanderveer, American Legion Post #129, 2025 Church Road, Toms River, NJ. The ship is also used in parades and for educational purposes.

An audio program was created to play during the display of the model which includes music from the US Navy Band, 1 MC Audio, Bosun Pipe Calls & background audio. The program includes in-port & underway routines.

The song at the beginning is Anchors Aweigh & the song at the end is Destroyermen played by the US Navy Band.
